Q. What does it cost to license data?
A. Mailing information costs 1 meter credit per record, telemarketing
info (mailing info plus phone number) costs 1.5 meter credits per
record, and full demographic info costs 3.5 meter credits per record
(meter credits cost 10 cents each). Specialty Data and additional
Contact Names vary depending on the data provider. Please contact
customer support at 800-532-3775 for more information.
Q. Can I look at my list before I license
it so I can see what I'm going to pay for?
A. Absolutely. The View Names button shows you exactly which
companies met the selections you made under Define List.
Q. What if there are companies in my list
that I don't want. Do I have to pay for them?
A. No, you can always view the exact names in a list before
you license the list and you can remove any that you don't want
- before you license.
Q. What can I do with a list once I buy
it?
A. For one year you can print mailing labels and telemarketing
reports as many times as you want and you can mail, call, export
the data, or otherwise use the list as many times as you want. After
a year you need to license the list again if you want to continue
to use it.
Q. Can I test a list before I roll out my
program to the entire list?
A. Yes, the MarketPlace Sample feature lets you generate a random
sample of your list if you want to test it. You can also save a
"remainder" file to use when you're ready to roll out
your program to the entire list, or if you want to take another
sample.
Q. Can I run your software using Virtual
PC?
A. Although Virtual PC claims to run any Windows application, we
have not tested it. Therefore, we do not recommend or support this
environment.
Q. What is Open Data?
A. You can use Open Data Selects to further refine your list criteria.
For example, with Open Data Selects you can define list criteria
based on an estimated number of PCs within an organization, or by
whether or not a company has a pension plan, a company's annual
advertising expenditures, or number of beds within a nursing home.
You can also add this data element to your final list.
Q. How do I export Lists?
A. To export a list click on Export list, the export list window
will then open. It will ask you to select the template that you
want to use. Choose the one you want then click on Export. If your
list contains Open Data make sure you check mark the option that
says Add all licensed open data selects fields to this Export. You
will be asked to save the document, at this point click on save.
Be sure to make note of the options tab when exporting Open Data
contacts. The lists can be exported in a .tab, .csv, and .dbf file
formats.
Q. Can I search by business name?
A. Yes, you can enter a business name by clicking on the icon next
to "advanced" under define list, then click on business
name. Here you can enter the name of the businesses that you would
like to search on.
Q. Where can I add fax numbers to my list?
A. You can add fax numbers in the Open Data section. Once there,
click on industry finder, type in fax, then select fax numbers.
Q. How do I update my list?
A. To update your list make sure you have the latest version of
the software installed. Go to File/Open and find the file you wish
to update. (It must be an .mpb file.) Once you find the file, click
"open", and a little window will pop up to prompt you
to update the list. If the list is already licensed, you can either
update the list automatically, only being charged for any new or
changed data, or choose copy definition to look at an unlicensed
updated copy of the list. To update an unlicensed list simply click
"update list".
Q. How do I avoid paying for the data that
I already have in my in-house file?
A. The best possible way to do this requires you to have MarketPlace
Gold. You will need one of these applications in order to convert
your in-house file to an .mpb file. Once you match and convert the
file to .mpb you now have the ability to suppress your house file
against your new prospect list to avoid paying for names you already
have.
1. Open up MarketPlace and begin to build
your new list
2. Once the criteria is selected click the blue arrow under "location"
that says "advanced"
3. Click on the icon that says "suppress records"
4. Click on "add list"
5. Find your in-house file that you just converted to .mpb and click
"open"
Your in-house list will be located in the window that says "suppress
the records that occur in these lists"
6. Click done
Your list is now suppressed.
Q. Can I merge two lists together?
A. Yes you can, what you need to do is to open up your first list,
then go to list from the top of your screen, and select Merge. Select
the set of circles that you want, then click on the choose button
that is under the with this list box. Choose the other list then
click Merge.
Q. What if I don't want to swap disks? What
are my installation options?
A. You have the option to install the CDs on to your hard drive.
Call Customer Support at 800.532.3775 for more information.
Q. How can I tell how many meter credits
are on my meter?
A. To find out how many meter credits are on your meter, open Marketplace,
click on Meter from the top menu bar. Choose status from the drop
down choices. A box will appear containing the actual number of
credits on your meter.
Q. What is the difference between choosing
Open Data as a select, output, or both?
A. When building a highly targeted list with Open Data, MarketPlace
gives you three ways to use the data:
As Output Data:
This option allows you to export all the data under the specific
open data element without using any criteria to limit the list.
For example, if you want to know the "Estimated PCs" for
each site in your list but do not need to further classify your
list (i.e. limiting by the actual number of PCs), you would use
"As Output Data." When this list is exported you will
be able to view a field for each company that reports the actual
number of Estimated PCs, regardless of the number.
As a Select:
This option allows you to limit your list to a specific range that
you define in the Open Data categories, but does not produce any
output field. Using the "Estimated PCs" example, if you
choose "As a Select," you can limit your list to those
companies that match your specific criteria for "Estimated
PCs" at the site, such as "5,000 or more." You will
not be able to view the actual estimated number of PCs on the export
data but these companies will all have at least 5,000 estimated
PCs.
As Both Output Data and a Select:
This option allows you to combine both features listed above. By
selecting "Both Output Data and a Select" you are able
to limit your list to specific criteria, such as "5,000 or
more" in the "Estimated PCs" example and you are
able to view the actual number in a field upon export.
