leads in powerful new ways, using numeric information (like revenue)
from your customer and lead databases. Here's just a few examples
of what the Custom Fields Module can reveal.
- See which industries spend the most with you when you include
revenue numbers from your database in your analyses.
- See which industries bring you the highest average revenue per
customer. These industries could be very different from the ones
that bring you the highest total revenue.
- Gage the revenue potential of a particular market segment.
Identify which industries buy which products by analyzing revenue
data for two or more products in the same report.
- See how many individuals in an industry responded to your lead
generation programs by measuring multiple customers at a single
site.

Q. What are potential matches?
A. The Potential Matches tab shows you the records from your input
file for which MP Target found two or more potential matches. Potential
matches are those records from the MP Target database which so closely
resemble the record from your input file that MP Target couldn't
determine which one of them was the correct match.
By reviewing potential matches and selecting a single, correct
match, you will improve your overall match rate.
Q. What will affect the match rate?
A. Your match rate will depend on how "clean" your input
file is. The more meticulous you've been about correct spellings,
standard abbreviations, accurate addresses, and phone numbers, the
better MP Target will be at singling out records in the database.
You may see lower match rates if:
- The data in your input file has inaccuracies, inconsistencies,
and misspellings
- The data in your input file is very old
- You incorrectly map the fields in your input file to the fields
in the MP Target database
- You don't include certain fields (such as Address) when you
compare your file to the MP Target database
- You don't have phone numbers in your input file
Q. How do I activate the menu at the Custom
Fields Module?
A. Click on module from the top of your screen, then click on module
manager, highlight the custom fields module and then click activate
a module. This will prompt you for instructions which include calling
Customer Support at 800-532-3375.

industries bring you the most revenue, which bring you the highest
revenue per customer, what types of industries buy more of Product

a promotion but which ones actually bought the most, and more. You
can use this information to make strategic decisions about how to
target future sales and marketing programs.
Q. Can I export data from MP Target and append
that data to my original customer or lead records?
A. Yes. MP Target lets you match your customer or lead records to
the onboard database of more than 14 million U.S. businesses and
export the added business demographic data for those records to
a MarketPlace list. Then, all you have to do is license and export
the data from MarketPlace and append it to your original customer
and lead records.

for me?
A. MarketPlace Gold provides the data. After exporting the data
from MarketPlace, you do the appending into your software yourself.
Q. Is there a limit to the number of records
that I can process with MP Target?
A. The base product lets you process 60,000 records. You can purchase
a High Capacity Module if you need to process over 60,000 records
or the Unlimited Capacity Module for over 500,000 records.
Q. How long will it take to process (match)
my file?
A. Depending on the MP Target installation options you selected
and the speed of your computer and CD-ROM drive, MP Target can match

you with your system configuration. Call us at 800-532-3775.
Q. What is the difference between MP Target
and MarketPlace Gold?
A. MarketPlace Gold is a software package that will include MarketPlace
and MP Target. MP Target is one of the software applications itself.
Q. Will MP Target find all of my records
in its onboard database?
A. Because data matching is an imperfect science, no service bureau
will ever match 100% of your records. MP Target has proven to deliver
match rates equal to or exceeding the 50-80% matches you can expect
from a matching service. Your match rate will depend on how "clean"
and complete your house file is. The more meticulous you've been
about correct spellings, accurate addresses, and so on, the better
MP Target can recognize the record as it searches its onboard database.
And, to help you improve match rates, MP Target lets you manually
review any records for which it found several possible matching
companies and choose the correct one.
Q. How do I define my specific market when
doing a market penetration analysis?
A. If you want to compare your file to the entire business universe
of the more than 14 million businesses in MP Target's onboard database,
you don't have to do anything. A penetration report is calculated
automatically for you. But, if you want to define a subset of the
onboard database as your market, it's as simple as choosing the
Define Market tab in your MP Target project and selecting the criteria
that define your market.
Q. Can I break down the analysis from 4-digit
to 8-digit SICs?
A. Yes. By simply double-clicking on the 4-digit SIC code, you can
see a breakdown by 6-digit and then 8-digit SIC codes.
Q. Can I do a customer analysis by SIC and
Employee Size combined?
A. Yes you can, by viewing the report called "Cross tab - Industry
(4-digit SIC) by Employee range." There are many quick and
easy reports that you can run. You can also customize and create
your own.
